One Decade

I recently had a conversation regarding marriage. A friend mentioned that everyone seemed to have a bump in the road at 10 years. The word divorce was even brought up. I assured her that Jim and I hadn't meant with any huge problems and we are nearing 11 years. I talked to Jim and he felt the same way as I. This has really been on my mind. I think 15 or 16 sounds hard - I don't know why.

What about you? Have you had any years that seemed particularly bad? If you are willing to post about that, please do.

I think Nathaniel and I are really looking forward to 10, 15 and 16, and many, many more. We have gotten all of the 'sickness' and 'worse' out of the way, and are moving forward with the 'health' and 'better'! :)

I've always heard the first 5 or 6 years are the hardest. I don't really know how I feel about that. I think marriage is always a work in progress. It isn't always easy, no matter how long you've been married. I don't really know why a certain amount of years would start bringing up the word divorce, or suddenly become harder. I have to say personally, in my marriage, I think the earlier years were harder for me. Seems like the longer we are married, the easier things have become. As long as we both stay grounded in our faith, and live our lives in a way that is pleasing to God, happiness between the two of us comes much easier. Did any of that even make sense? It's late...I need to go to bed. haha See you at school tomorrow Denise!! =)

I think anna has a good point -- there is no one magic good or bad year. Every year is an opportunity to learn more about your spouse and grow together. I think like every area of life, you both must be diligent about keeping close tabs on your marriage. I think that at (almost) 14 years, the best years are still in front of us -- and I can't wait! :-)

I know that for me and Mike, the "D" word is not an option. We believe that you must work through things. I agree with Anne, we are working through the "worse" and looking forward to the Better!
