A Question For The Weekend

Last weekend Kenny and I saw the
Abilene Philharmonic - it was the Christmas Pops concert. I loved it. The conductor actually sat at the piano and sang In The Bleak Mid-Winter - that's what made me think of it.
He also mentioned that the Season wasn't complete without his favorite song sung by a particular soprano. It made me think,
What song is your favorite of the Christmas Season? Do you have a singer, too?

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

That's funny - my husband asked me the other day what my favorite Christmas song was and I had to think... and think... and I am still unable to decide. I like so many, and there are some I love sung by one artist and not really another or in one style, or another and there are the lyrics I like in some, and others sound so beautiful played instrumental, and there are the new rockin' versions that make me smile, and so many old ones that tug at my heart.

No, I can't decide on just one. I love the Carpenters Christmas album, it is so warm and toasty. I love Sufjan Steven's Christmas album, it is so fresh and sparkly.

How's that for an answer!?

I love All Christmas music. But my absolute favorite is Ave Maria - by either the Three Tenors or Wynonna, that is one spectrum to another

Hands down, it's gotta be "White Christmas" sung ONLY by Bing Crosby!

I was commenting again to say that Bing Crosby is probably my favorite Christmas singer. . .man alive, you can feel his voice rumble over the television set during that movie. Amazing.

Too many to choose one! We always listen to Handel's Messiah all the way through at least once a year. No, I don't make my kids sit and listen to every single note, but when we have a day we're going to be home, I put it in as background music.

I also LOVE a little song Michael W Smith wrote a few years back called "All is Well." If you haven't heard it, you should.

I tend to think in terms of entire cd's, though. Definitely Messiah. MWS's "Christmas" cd. Point of Grace's first Christmas cd. The Charlie Brown Christmas cd. Harry Connick Jr's "When My Heart Finds Christmas," and -- this year -- Josh Groban's "Noel."

Music is a HUGE part of the Christmas season and the whole Christmas experience!
