My Hair Past

Who is this little girl in the homemade dress? Did she know that the hair needed something?!? Did she cut her hair herself? Did she see braces in her future?

Yeah, that's me in about 1st grade. I'm not sure why my mom kept my hair so short. I didn't feel weird or ugly - so I guess it was okay. Later when people would tell me their childhood tales of LONG hair - I was envious. One of my college friends had hair down to her hiney. Her name was on her shorts because it it was covered on the back of her shirt. I always found this fascinating.

I think the haircut was called a pixie. When I was old enough to choose, I had a shag. Does that tell you anything?

Just 2 days ago at the pool I was looking at Abbie and trying to decide who she looked like ... now I know, it is you!

I had SHORT hair too when I was a first grader! At the time I thought nothing of it, but now as I look back, it was absolutely hideous! Really!

I'll have to pull out a pic and show you sometime...you'll get a good laugh!

Denise,
I absolutely 100% agree with Tammy! I mean, I thought, "WOW...there's Abbie!"

And... my kindergarten hair-doo looks extremely similar only includes a HUGE burgundy barrett that only serves to accentuate my mom's lack of beautician magic.

Oh well! Looks like we both turned out to like ourselves anyway. :)

Yikes. I can remember my 1st grade picture well. I did have longer hair, but for some reason my mom thought a reeeeeally tight perm would be cute. Not so much. Not to mention my giant horse teeth that had not been tamed by braces yet. CUTE.

Oh..and Abbie does look JUST like you!

Pixies rock! I had one too - for years!!! I also had the shag-do, but I much preferred calling it the Farrah Fawcett look. :)

I also was cursed with the pixie. My mom had this friend,Charlene, who was a beauty operator. Everytime we went to her house I had to get a haircut. I got to where I wouldn't go, because I wanted long straight hair.

I had that same hair-do and my mom is STILL always saying "You'd look so much cuter in a pixie cut." I remember the first day of 1st grade all the other girls had these long cascading gorgeous pony tails and then there was me with scabby knees and looking liked I'd stuck my head in a blender. Not much has changed.

Wow, this is pretty much what I looked like back in 19XX! Pixie haircut and all, except I had a kelly green velvet dress on that I absolutely adored. I think my mom took my sister and me to a barber for our haircuts. Then we got into the perm era. Oh my.

Here from Boomama's - you looked adorable! I also had the short hair back in the 70s, but mine did NOT look adorable!

I had the same hair-do. Mama got it cut right before I started 1st grade. I've been a short-hair girl ever since. I try to grow it out - I DO - but it just goes against everything in me.

What you didn't realize in this picture was that you were SASSY beyond your years. :-)
